After a failed attempt to start a hike in Glacier National Park we ventured north, only to see that the border crossing at Chief Mountain was already closed for the season.

But, that's not the only place to cross into Canada. So, after a quick 45 minute drive we crossed into Alberta!
This little detour was not planned, otherwise we would have had or passports. Officers were reluctant, but we had other "proof" of residency in the glove box.
Getting back into the U.S.A. was quite a bit harder, which seems completely backward. The US officiers were not pleasant and were basically asking for our first born.
But, we made it to Waterton Park, Alberta. Waterton Lakes National Park. Part of the Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park. Below are pictures and brief descriptions of places and vistas viewed!!

Prince of Wales Hotel Waterton was built by the railroad and named this in a transparent attempt to entice the Prince of Wales (later King Edward VIII) to stay in the hotel, but the prince stayed at his own nearby ranch instead.

The views on the back side of the hotel are breathtaking!

Took a drive up to Cameron Lake. There's nothing like an alpine lake. There is a trail going around but 1/2 of it was blocked off due to grizzly sighting earlier that day. FACT: the other end of this lake (that mountain) is in the USA.

After the lake we drove up RED ROCK PWKY and took a quick hike into the mountain bliss and Blakiston Falls.
We arrived in Waterton just before dusk, well how are we going to see and experience this place in the dark. We found literally the last hotel room in town, unfortunately the Prince of Wales had already closed for the season.

Pictures just don't show the vibrance of the color contrasts! What a wonderful end to a "let's see if they'll let us cross" weekend!
